Driver, Passengers Walk Away From Fiery Crash


SUMMIT COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) ―


The driver of this semi-truck walked away from a fiery crash on I-70 Friday night.

A fiery crash between a semi and a sedan shut down several lanes of I-70 near Lake Dillon for about 90 minutes Friday night.

Summit County Deputies are investigating the accident in which all parties involved suffered only minor injuries.

Firefighters said they found the semi completely engulfed in flames when they arrived at the accident site in the westbound lanes near mile marker 205 about 7:30 p.m. Friday. The driver was not hurt.

Deputies are investigating the crash between the semi and the sedan. The passenger vehicle, a Saab, sustained major damage in the crash. A mother, an infant and a toddler inside the car received only minor bumps and bruises.

"Seatbelts and the proper use of child seats definitely saved some lives tonight," said Summit County Deputy Chief Jeff Berino.

Fire crews contained a 50 to 110 gallon diesel fuel spill that leaked out of the semi's saddle tank.

The roads were clear at the time of the accident. What casued the accident is being investigated.
