The high pressure ridge over the region will weaken on Sunday. This will bring a little cooler temperatures to Northern California due to a cold front bringing precipitation mainly North of Interstate 80. The precipitation amounts will be light. By late Monday, precipitation will leave the area, with dry conditions returning on Tuesday.
Easterly winds locally gusting over 30 mph may cause difficult driving conditions today, mainly this morning. Areas affected: Banning Pass (I-10), Cajon Pass (I-15/I-215), Santa Ana foothills (SR-241/SR-91), I-8 east of El Cajon, SR-78 east of Escondido, and SR-79 east of Temecula. Record high temperatures are possible in the coastal areas today.
A strong storm will move into the area on Wednesday night and then remain over the area through the end of the week. The main impact from this storm will be the potential for very strong winds. This may cause areas of blowing dust, possible small tree or limb damage and loose objects may be blown over. Strong crosswinds may make driving difficult while choppy waters will likely be encountered on the area lakes.
Snow will briefly impact the region starting in northwest Montana this evening and southward through the rest of Montana and Idaho overnight. Wind and snow will combine for a short period of time especially on mountain passes to create a short period of impacted travel conditions overnight. A strong storm system is expected to form off the pacific northwest early next week and move in to the Northern Rockies on Wednesday. Widespread snow is expected to fall throughout western Montana. The storm is expected to move out of the area by Wednesday night allowing skies to clear. Temperatures will cool rapidly due to the snow cover and clearing skies.
Dense patchy fog will form during the late night through mid-morning hours in the San Joaquin valley over the next few days. Drive safely.
A storm system currently in the Gulf of Alaska will bring much colder air to the Bay Area to start off the work week. High temperatures early next week will be as much as 30 degrees colder compare to yesterday. The air mass will also be cold enough to bring some of the lowest snow levels of the year, 2000-3000 feet. The real question will be, how much precipitation will this system bring to the Bay Area? At this time, scattered showers seem plausible. That means some of the snow will be possible above 2000 feet.
A low pressure system will drop down from Canada Thursday and bring gusty northeast winds and much colder temperatures to the region. Sierra Ridge winds will be gusting up to 100mph from the northeast with strong gusts reaching lower elevations as well. Expect afternoon high temperatures to be in the low 40s across western Nevada and in the low to mid 30s for higher elevations in the Sierra by Thursday.
